DNA paternity testing using fetal DNA after abortion

It is a DNA profiling test that investigates parent-child relationships using the fetal tissue (extracted material) after an abortion procedure.
DNA testing is performed by comparing the DNA of the fetus, the mother, and a male who may be the father, using next-generation sequencing (NGS).

Specimen available for testing

Fetal tissue (extracted material) after abortion is required.
In order to prevent DNA degradation or decomposition, it is necessary to collect fetal tissue immediately after an abortion procedure.
Therefore, please apply for testing in advance.

Method for collecting DNA samples from mother and potential father

We ask each the mother and the man who could be the potential father to submit oral epithelium as a specimen.
Oral epithelium is collected simply by swabbing the inside of the cheek with a cotton swab.

Accuracy of the testing

The probability of paternity confirmation, i.e. the probability of a tested male being the biological father, is determined with a minimum guaranteed accuracy of 99.99% and a minimum exclusion accuracy of 0%.
It is theoretically impossible to achieve 100% accuracy, and there is virtually no way to refute a 99.9% probability of paternity exclusion.
However, in cases where the alleged father is an identical twin, they will have the same genetic profile, making it difficult to establish paternity through DNA testing.

Types of paternity testing

"private testing" and "legal testing".
Private testing is conducted for personal confirmation purposes, while legal testing is used to prove parentage in court or mediation.
The accuracy of the paternity test results is not different between the two types.
